Exciting Results from Day One of the European Para-Archery Championships in Rome: Italy Shines with Bronze Victories

First day of finals at the European Para-Archery Championships in Rome. Today the challenges for bronze took place with two successes for Italy in W1 thanks to Asia Pellizzari and the mixed team with Pellizzari and Panella. Tomorrow the matches move to the splendid scenery of the Archaeological Park of Ostia Antica with all the matches for the continental title live on RaiPlay from 11:00 to 12:30.

THE RESULTS OF W1

Asia Pellizzari wins the bronze, beating the British Victoria Kingstone 129-113 in the final without any problems. Domination for the Italian who after the first six arrows already has a twelve point lead (29-21, 27-23), her opponent tries to make up ground with successes in the third and fifth sets (25-24 and 24- 23), but the home archer puts the exclamation point in the fourth with 26-20 which closes the game even more.

The second bronze of the day for Pellizzari comes together with Maurizio Panella with the victory in the challenge against Great Britain (Kingstone, Saych) in the mixed team with the result of 137-126. Italy comes back to take the medal after losing the first set 34-31, a small hiccup in a match in which the other volleys are all Italian: 35-32, 35-29 and 36-31.
Fourth individual place instead for Maurizio Panella who is overcome by Bahattin Hekimoglu 136-131: the challenge is balanced in the first two volleys with 29-26 for the Turk and 27-25 for the blue, then Hekimoglu takes over with two sets winners 28-25 and 28-27, while the last ends tied 26-26.

THE RESULTS OF THE COMPOUND

Maria Andrea Virgilio concluded her run at the foot of the podium in the compound with a 141-135 knockout against the Polish Markitantova. The gap is almost entirely created in the first set 28-23, the others are decidedly more balanced even if the Pole wins the second and fifth (both 29-28), draws the fourth 28-28 and leaves only the third to the Italian 28-27.

THE RESULTS OF THE OLIMPIC

Fourth place also went to Vincenza Petrilli who lost the match against the Greek Dorothea Poimenidou 6-2. The Italian took the lead 2-0 (23-21), but was then overtaken by the Hellenic team capable of winning the next three sets 23-21, 25-20 and 23-22.
The mixed team of Elisabetta Mijno and Stefano Travisani was unlucky, losing the final for bronze only in the shoot-off with Poland 5-4 (16-20). The Italian pair, who had set a new world record in qualifying, won the first set (36-30), then were overtaken by Olszweska-Ciszek 36-31 and 36-34, but in the fourth volley they evened the score (36 -31) and takes the match to a shoot-off. The last two arrows see the opponents more precise with two 10s against a 6 and a 10 for the home team.

THE RESULTS OF THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED
