Léonardo Scienza (59th/foul penalty) and Max Brandt (64th) helped SSV Ulm win with their goals. The team from Ulm now has 71 points after the game.

“Welcome back to the Second Bundesliga, Ulmer Spatzen!” said DFL managing directors Marc Lenz and Steffen Merkel about the promotion of SSV Ulm. To be promoted straight back up from the regional league is an impressive achievement.

“This is a dream, this is the most beautiful day of my life. I also believe there can’t be a more beautiful day,” said team captain Johannes Reichert. “We knew we could do something historic, but there was no guarantee that we would actually do it today,” said Ulm coach Thomas Wörle at Magenta Sport.

Most recently promoted to the Second Bundesliga with Ralf Rangnick

In 2024, the Ulm team are still undefeated and have achieved a total of eleven wins and five draws. They recently achieved five wins in a row. Only in the Württemberg State Cup did the cathedral town team fail in the semi-finals. Wörle accompanied the FC Bayern Munich women to the German championship in 2015 and 2016. Ulm’s renewed promotion is his greatest success so far in his career as a men’s football coach.

The Ulm team, with coaches Ralf Rangnick and Martin Andermatt, were last promoted from the Regionalliga to the Second Bundesliga at the end of the 1990s. In 2001, they slipped into the fifth league after a bankruptcy – and two more bankruptcies followed by 2014. The club had announced several times in the past that it wanted to do everything it could to avoid economic chaos like that in the future.

With the promotion, the discussion about a renovation of the outdated Danube Stadium is now also topical. As was previously the case in the third division, Ulm require an exemption for their home games in the second division. Therefore, the stadium is to be modernized at a cost of possibly around ten million euros. In the long term, the SSV wants to build a pure football arena at another location.
