In the search for a successor to Francesco Farioli, OGC Nice has turned to Franck Haise of RC Lens. The 53-year-old coach faced PSV with the sub-topper last season in the group stage of the Champions League.

Farioli, who left for Ajax, will therefore have a French successor at OGC Nice. The 35-year-old Italian has been at the helm of OGC Nice for the past two seasons and had the choice of clubs. OGC Nice therefore took his departure into account and first had Bruno Génésio in mind as a possible successor.

The 57-year-old trainer was fired from Stade Rennes last November after two and a half years and seemed to be on his way to OGC Nice. Only the number five of Ligue 1 decided differently. L’Équipe reports that OGC Nice will pay an amount of two million euros to RC Lens to release Haise.

Haise is best known in France for leading RC Lens to the group stage of the Champions League. RC Lens, a sub-topper from the north of France, finished this season in a group with Arsenal, PSV and Sevilla in a good third place. Although Haise’s team lost 1-0 to PSV in Eindhoven and drew 1-1 in Lens, they did qualify for the next round of the Europa League. In this intermediate round, however, RC Lens was eliminated by SC Freiburg.
