French Revolution: Trends and Uncertainties in the 2024 NBA Draft

The 2024 NBA Draft is just under a month away. The franchises are far from having made their choice(s), and the dynamics will change until the last second on the evening of the Draft. But certain trends are already emerging, and looking at the state of the mocks also allows us to see in what sauce our French will be eaten. Do you want to know in whom your honesty of heart will place its hopes? First answers just below!

As a reminder, a mock draft corresponds to a choice-by-choice simulation which is based on the quality of prospects, the different needs of NBA franchises and the latest rumors across the League. Nothing is official, everything is speculation.

Tables updated on May 28, 2024.

LES LOTTERY PICKS

Risacher ? Sarr ? Alexandre ? Zaccharie ? For the first choice, the trend is Franco-French. Alone The Ringer don’t imagine a blue-white-red top 2, and the order between the two nuggets reverses with the wind and tides. The third musketeer, Tidjane Salaün, varies between places 6 and 12 but confirms the latest rumors according to which he would be closer to the top 10 than quit the lottery. Bank with CBS Sports who imagines the Cholet player in the Top 6 among the Frelons.

The main information in this table is the feeling of uncertainty that reigns in the face of the homogeneity of the Draft. All the prospects – or almost – who can grab a place in the top 5 are sometimes… placed at the end of the lottery. Dalton Knecht yo-yos between 3 and 11, Rob Dillingham between 4 and 9, and Nikola Topic yo-yos between places 3 and 12, almost like Cody Williams.

Especially for exteriors, no hierarchy is not yet established and franchises are still hesitating between Sheppard, Dillingham, Topic or Castle. For the big men, Donovan Clingan seems to be expected not to leave the top of the Draft. The only pivot in the table with Zach Edey who makes an appearance, he is riding his superb March Madness with UConn.

The uncertainty logically increases as we move away from the Top 10, and names like Ja’Kobe Walter, Devin Carter or Johnny Furphy come to say hello. But what is clear is that the vintage is conducive to surprises and poker moves. The presence of Terrence Shannon Jr. or Kyshawn George in the lottery, as is the case in some mocks, would be quite unexpected but far from impossible.

THE REST OF THE FIRST ROUND

In addition to Tidjane Salaün, at the gates of the lottery according to NBADraft.netwe find in most mocks another Frenchie in the person of Pacôme Dadiet. The player currently playing in the German championship (Ulm), projected at the end of the first round and the beginning of the second, could scratch an appearance between places 24 and 30, potentially in a contender team. Melvin Ajincaanother Frenchman projected for the 2024 Draft, is rather expected in the second round.

The nuggets Jared McCain, Devin Carter and Tristan Da Silva, three very different but no less tempting profiles, are the three names that should not leave the top 20. Beyond that, it’s a little more vague. We can note some names like that ofIsaiah Collier, once anticipated as a potential first choice, which continues its fall in the mocks and no longer enters the lottery. Another question mark, Zach Edeywho appears to be headed for the first round despite doubts about his adaptation to the NBA.

Finally, Tyler Smith or Yves Missi – although rather close to the lottery a few weeks ago – no longer seem to be as popular. But they remain prospects who could make the jump directly into places 10 and 15, as the hierarchy seems so little in place.

LINKS TO THE MOCKS

In the coming weeks, prospects will continue the workouts with the franchises and information will come out little by little to confirm or deny the trends. What is certain, or almost certain, is that the French should be popular in this 2024 Draft. Three in the top 10-12 and another in the first round is a possible scenario. Cock-a-doodle Doo.
