German Archers Excel in Home European Championships, Secure Two Gold and One Bronze Before Summer Olympics in Paris

Two gold, one bronze: The German archers exceeded their minimum goal at the home European Championships in Essen. Around two and a half months before the Summer Olympics in Paris (July 26th to August 11th), the recurve shooters won three medals, mainly thanks to Katharina Bauer.

The 28-year-old secured the European title in the final against the Spanish Elia Canales, and by beating Great Britain she also won gold in the mixed doubles with Florian Unruh. Together with Charline Schwarz and Elisa Tartler, Bauer also won bronze in the team.

The men’s team, on the other hand, had already been eliminated in the quarter-finals against Croatia and initially missed the quota place for Paris, but there is still another chance at the last qualifier tournament in Antalya in mid-June. In the individual, too, it was over for the three German starters around Unruh, who was fifth in Tokyo, in the round of 16 at the latest.

The German recurve shooters won five medals at the 2022 European Championships. Before the title fights in Essen, national coach Oliver Haidn had set two podium finishes as his goal.
