Golden State Warriors Looking to Add Big-Name Assistant Coach to Staff

Head coach Steve Kerr and the Golden State Warriors are currently coming off what was a very frustrating 2023-24 season that saw the team get sent home in the first round of the Play-In Tournament against the Sacramento Kings. Part of the team’s renewal should concern the composition of the coaching staff around Steve Kerr, considering two factors. The first sees Kerr busy in the summer with Team USA at the Olympics, the second sees assistant Kenny Atkinson packing his bags if he gets the Cleveland bench.

“The Warriors have had some conversations with former Los Angeles Lakers coach Darvin Ham in recent weeks, according to league sources,” The Athletic’s Anthony Slater reported (via the New York Times). “It’s not expected to materialize. But it’s a sign of the Warriors’ desire to add a big-name assistant, and indications are that they are looking for a former head coach or former player to fill the role.”

Despite the substantial failure of his two-year experience at the helm of the Los Angeles Lakers, with a few too many flaws, Darvin Ham is still a basketball mind respected throughout the league who has been part of the staff of some very successful teams, including Milwaukee Bucks NBA champions 2021 under the guidance of coach Mike Budenholzer.
