Gordon Hayward Expresses Disappointment with Role on OKC Thunder

Many of us saw Gordon Hayward’s perfect fit upon his arrival to OKC from the Hornets. However, his presence in Mark Daigneault’s rotation has been almost testimonial, and with the end of the 2023-24 season, the veteran player has not been able to hide his disappointment with the few minutes that he has received so much in the regular season like in the playoffs.

«Disappointed by how everything has turned out. Without a doubt it has been frustrating,” Hayward acknowledged in statements collected by Joel Lorenzi of the media. Oklahoma Sports.

«I feel that as a player I still have a lot to offer. I just wasn’t given the opportunity to do that. “I thought they would give it to me,” he explained.

It should be remembered that he came to the young Thunder transferred from Charlotte in an operation in which the players Tre Mann, Davis Bertans and finally Vasijle Micic were also involved.

Hayward is in the last year of his guaranteed contract, and will be an unrestricted free agent as of July. The Thunder will release up to $31 million in his accounts.

«I think the minutes they gave me, and like I said, the role I played, I think I could have been more aggressive in some possessions. But it’s hard when you just walk into the game and it’s not like you’re given an open opportunity, you ask for it. In reality I have never been that type of player who receives the ball and looks for one on one », he concluded.
