Italian Archers Shine at European Para-Archery Championships in Rome: Individual Finals Set and Team Challenges Begin

THE RESULTS OF THE MORNING – Italy shines in the women’s Olympic arc with two Italians in the final. Elisabetta Mijno, fresh from setting the mixed team world record together with Stefano Travisani with 1300 points, will compete for gold on Friday at 12 against the Polish Olszewska, while Vincenza Petrilli will face the Greek Poimenidou for the bronze at 10. Clear path for Mijno who beats the Hellenic 6-2 and the Slovenian Lavrinic 6-0, while Petrilli after the 6-0 against the Ukrainian Shevchenko wins in the shoot-off 6-5 (10-7) against the Turkish Segul and then surrenders in the semi-final to the Polish Olszewska 6 -2. Veronica Floreno exits in the first round, defeated by Poimenidou 6-2.

Bronze final also in W1 where Maurizio Panella is still on Friday, but at 9.15 the medal will be played against the Turkish Hekimoglu. The Italian won the clash with Davidek (CZE) 135-131 and then lost in the semifinal by a single point 129-128 with the Turkish Aydin who had previously defeated Francesco Tomaselli 136-124, the national team’s archer in the first round he had won 129-128 with the British Saych while Paolo Tonon was eliminated in the first match by the French Letulle 133-126.

THE RESULTS OF THE AFTERNOON – Italian women’s double final also in the compound with Eleonora Sarti beating the British Grinham 138-137 and then also winning the semi-final against her partner Maria Andrea Virgilio 141-140 flying into the final for gold against the Turkish Cure on Friday at 11.30. At 9.30 Maria Andrea Virgilio will compete for bronze with the Polish Markitantova after beating the Irish Leonard 141-135 and the Turkish Yorulmaz 137-136 in the first two rounds. Giulia Pesci out in the second round after the 136-135 success with the French Rigault Chupin and the 145-137 knockout with the Turkish Cure.

The men’s draw, however, denies the Azzurri any dreams of glory with Giampaolo Cancelli beating his teammate Christian Seneca 143-133 and then losing in the round of 16 to Matteo Bonacina 147-143, the world champion thus remaining the only Azzurri in the race and losing in the quarter-finals in the shoot-off 145-145 (10-10*) with the Ukrainian Atamanenko.

In the women’s W1, Asia Pellizzari will play for bronze on Friday at 9am against the British Kingstone after having first won 130-121 against the Turkish Misir and lost 127-124 against the Czech Brandtlova. Dalia Dameno out in the quarterfinals beaten 116-115 by the British Kingstone.
