Italian Football Legend Leonardo Bonucci Retires at 37: A Look Back at His Glittering Career

Defender Leonardo Bonucci, aged 37, announced his retirement from football. Juventus idol, the Italian defender, who was at Fenerbahçe, published a video on social media revealing his withdrawal from the field.

– As a child I dreamed of this story to tell, promising myself moments to remember against the greats – he said at one point in the video.

Bonucci made history in Italian football. In 11 years at Juventus, won eight Scudettos, four Italian Cups and five Italian Super Cups. In fact, he also won a Series A and a Cup at the beginning of his career in Inter Milan. However, he was more notable in the Italian team’s title at Euro 2020. The defender scored the goal that took the final against England to penalties, won by the Azurra.

Throughout his successful career, Bonucci also played for Inter Milan, Treviso, Pisa, Genoa, Bari and Milan. After leaving Juve for the last time, in 2023, he went to play for Unión Berlin. However, in January this year, the defender went to Fenerbahçe, where he hung up his boots.
