Junior European Cup set to kick off in Graz with top international talent

Next weekend, the Junior European Cup will take place in Graz, more precisely in the Raiffeisen Sports Park. The first teams will arrive on Wednesday. 435 judoka from 30 nations have registered. In addition to host Judo Austria with 43 participants, the following nations have the largest delegations: Germany (60), Turkey (44) and Israel (40). Judo superpower Japan is coming with 15 athletes, including 3 youth world champions and, with Nitsuki Kondo (-48), a Judo World Tour winner. The 19-year-old won the Grand Prix of Upper Austria in Linz at the beginning of March.

Six of the 43 ÖJV judoka will be seeded, most notably Elena Dengg (-70/ESV Sanjindo Bischofshofen/S/No. 2), who is celebrating her comeback in Graz after a thumb injury. Carina Klaus-Sternwieser (-52/Askö Reichraming/5), Franziska Schlögl (-63/JZ Krems/NÖ/8), Helene Schrattenholzer (+78/JU Klosterneuburg/NÖ/3), Issa Naschcho (-81/LZ Multikraft Wels/OÖ/3) and Ronald Pröll (-90/UJZ Mühlviertel/OÖ/6) also have a good chance of a top placing.

After the Junior European Cup, a two-day training camp will take place in Graz, in which a large number of the ÖJV national team athletes will also take part.
