If the Mavericks won their series against the Clippers last night, they lost Maxi Kleber to injury. The German interior, hit hard in the shoulder, is potentially out for the rest of the 2024 Playoffs.
The fall was scary, and unfortunately it was not without consequences.
Falling violently to the ground after a collision with Amir Coffey (Clippers) at the start of the second quarter last night, Maxi Kleber suffered a complete dislocation of the acromioclavicular joint. This is Shams Charania from The Athletic who broke the news this Saturday evening.
Result: he will be absent for a good while, possibly for the rest of the Playoffs.
Ouch ouch ouch nasty fall from Maxi Kleber….
It could have been very serious, we hope it will be fine within several hours, tomorrow morning…

This injury did not prevent Maxi Kleber from making one of his two free throws, but the German interior was unable to finish the match. And the Mavs will therefore have to do without him from now on.
This is a real blow for Dallas, which was able to count on a Kleber performing well in the first round of the Playoffs. His stats in the series are nothing transcendent (5.7 points, 2.7 rebounds) but he hurt the Clippers very badly, notably through a Maximum 3-point success (10/18, 55.6% of far !). While Daniel Gafford and Derek Lively II bring an aerial threat to Dallas’ frontcourt, Kleber brings an outside threat while being a serious defender on the ground. A profile that the Mavs particularly like, they who have used Maxi sometimes in 5 but also in combination with a pivot.
The Mavs will not have these options against Oklahoma City in the Western Conference semi-finals. We’re not saying that this is what will change the series, but it’s clearly one less weapon for Luka Doncic and Co.
