The new sports surface will be used in competitions and training by children and youth judokas from Promesas Chile.
A tatami for competitions under the highest quality standards was acquired by the Aysén National Sports Institute (IND), through the Strengthening of Conventional and Paralympic Sports Performance program, Promesas Chile Training subcomponent.
The investment made was for 22 million pesos, it will allow training to be enhanced and regional and national level championships organized to obtain greater competitive friction.
The sports implementation was delivered by the Seremi del Deporte, together with the regional director(s) of the IND Javier Medina, within the framework of the training of the judo discipline at the Coyhaique Regional Training Center.
The Seremi of Sports María Eugenia Durán pointed out that it is the same model that will be used in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
“This means that as the Ministry of Sports and as IND we are providing our region with the best of the best in high-standard equipment, so that for us, the truth is that it fills us with pride and joy, because step by step we follow preparing to host the Araucanía Aysén 2024 Binational Games,” he indicated.
Likewise, Sensei Reynaldo Figueroa, Promesas Chile Judo coach, stated that the tatami is Olympic, that is, we can compete at the world level and I always emphasize that we have a first-class gym, we have everything, so the medals flow.
“Last year we were awarded as one of the best teams in the country, and for the Araucanía Games we have a team that we are preparing and I think we are going to give several surprises because we promise medals anyway, in fact, we have never gotten there the Games without medals,” said the sensei.
“If we want to win the Games, then we are going to work on that, we propose a project, I believe that from here several young people are going to have to travel to Brazil to prepare to arrive at the event in the best possible way and finish among the first places.” . We are going to know how to take care of this tatami,” added Figueroa.
Tatami characteristics
The new tatami has an assembly under each of the plates so that it does not slide or open, thus avoiding possible finger or ankle injuries and also has very good cushioning.
In total there are 98 units, 50 pieces of yellow tatami and 48 pieces of red tatami, made of high quality cross-linked polyethylene foam under the needs and standards of the International Judo Federation (IJF), PVC surface, no need frame, it is 70% lighter than traditional material and its surface is washable.
Its measurement is 2000 x 1000 x 50 mm. and it is of international standard.
