The Latvian national team still has to meet the USA hockey players in the subgroup tournament on Tuesday, and a victory in regular time would allow them to hope to enter the quarterfinals. For this to happen, the Slovaks must lose to the group leaders Sweden in the last match in regular time.

In the World Championship, before the match with the Slovaks (3:2 victory in the shootout), Latvian hockey players defeated the Polish national team 5:4 in extra time, France 3:2 in extra time, Kazakhstan national team 2:0, Germany was recognized 1:8 in the game superiority, but then lost 2-7 to Sweden.

The World Championship will take place in the Czech cities of Prague and Ostrava until May 26.
