RB Leipzig Coach Marco Rose Considers Rewarding Youth Player in Last Game of the Season

There’s not much at stake in the last game of the season for RB Leipzig. Marco Rose is therefore considering rewarding a youth player who could still play in the U17.

4th place in the table can no longer be shaken: Both the gap to the front and back is too big for RB Leipzig before the last game of the season (Saturday, 3:30 p.m., LIVE! on kicker) in the Bundesliga.

Coach Marco Rose praised opponents Eintracht Frankfurt effusively and mainly related to the surroundings: “Great stadium, great fans,” he said. “The Champions League and Europa League seasons: When you have seen what power Frankfurt has …”

Simakan was injured in training

The SGE will refrain from any experiments and will want to defend 6th place, which could entitle it to the Champions League, with all its might in the long-distance duel against Hoffenheim. But Leipzig can afford the luxury of rewarding one or two talents with playing time.

While ex-Frankfurt player Christopher Lenz is out with calf problems and Mohamed Simakan was also injured in training on Thursday (Rose: “It doesn’t look so good for tomorrow”), the door opens for a 17-year-old Norwegian.

Elmas also gets playing time

“Tomorrow we will take Jonathan Norbye, a U-19 player who can still play U17,” said Rose. The central defender “more than earned it through his performances in the youth ranks”. The coach also promised Norbye some playing time. “We want to send out the signal and let the integration progress further,” he said, looking at the Leipzig youth teams.

Winter newcomer Eljif Elmas (twelve substitutions in 13 games so far) could get even more playing time. “We want to see Eljif on the pitch a little longer,” said Rose, who admitted that – unlike in previous years – he is missing something in the final spurt of the season without an impending cup final: “We notice that we are missing something .”

When asked about his own future, which had been speculated about in the media, Rose made it clear: “No more commitment is possible: I’ll be a coach here next year.”
