Remco Evenepoel Prepares for Comeback Following Serious Crash: Uncertainty Looms for Dauphiné

It has been about two months since Remco Evenepoel suffered a serious crash together with a number of other top riders in the Tour of the Basque Country. In the meantime, the Belgian champion is preparing for his comeback.

Not feeling great yet

It is scheduled for early June in the Dauphiné. Evenepoel meanwhile gave an update to the RTBF on the current state of affairs. It’s all going well, I’ve been cycling again for a few weeks now,” it sounds positive at first.

“I have been training here at Sierra Nevada for two weeks now. But I think everyone knows that with the injuries I had, nothing should be rushed in the recovery,” it then starts to sound a bit more worrying.

And that becomes even more the case when he talks about his feeling on the bike. “Actually, that’s not great yet,” Evenepoel is honest. “I dropped out in the Basque Country when I was really in top form. Since I had to stop cycling for a few weeks in the best possible shape, I think it’s difficult to continue from there.”

With doubts towards Dauphiné

And so Evenepoel has no choice but to take it day by day, and above all not to skip any steps. “I really have to take it day by day, that’s okay and is what it is,” he nevertheless accepts the situation.

As mentioned, Evenepoel will be at the start of the Dauphiné at the beginning of June, which he will therefore start with some doubts. “I just don’t know what it’s going to be like. We shall see. The plans have not changed further.”
