The last frontier of sports-related marketing, research using a scientific method is increasingly used, such as that carried out in the context of Gillette’s project to support the Azzurri. A group of researchers from the Digital Innovation Observatories of the Polytechnic of Milan analyzed the performances of the last four editions of the European Football Championships, from 2008 to 2020, to answer a question: ‘Does having a beard or not affect the players’ playing performance? And how?’.
Taking into consideration the performances of the Azzurri in previous tournaments, it emerges that the Bomber Labs players (shaven) are more decisive and have scored 12% more goals than the King players (bearded) and their scoring percentage is equal to 56%. against 44% of colleagues. The Labs are also more decisive: they have a higher average of winning tackles – 56% compared to 44% for the Kings. The identikit of this profile is found, for example, in Gianluca Scamacca, Alessandro Buongiorno and Davide Frattesi. A prototype of King can only be Giacomo Bonaventura, midfielder, and together with him, among the Kings of the Labs League, we also find Federico Gatti.
