Rise of World-Class Basketball Players in the 2024 Canadian Elite Basketball League Season

World-class basketball players once again in the spotlight across the country in 2024

The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CBLE), the largest professional sports league in Canada with 10 teams across six provinces, launches its sixth season on Tuesday, as part of opening week powered by Neo Financial. The season will officially begin at 7 p.m. local/9 p.m. Eastern when the Calgary Surge host provincial rivals the Edmonton Stingers in a nationally televised game (TSN ) at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

More than 140 players are participating in the 2024 CBL training camps presented by Electrolit, including 107 Canadians. Rosters heading into the regular season include a record number of players with NBA experience, many high-profile CEBL veterans returning to the league, as well as players who played in the NBA G League, in the NCAA, within U SPORTS and other leagues.

Among the elite players under contract across the LECB in 2024, we note:

  • 107 Canadians (75% of all players in rosters)
  • 10 players with NBA experience (a record)
  • 43 players with NBA G League experience (a record)
  • 22 players who have been part of Canada’s senior men’s national team
  • 80 returning LECB veterans
  • 91 players with professional experience abroad
  • 90 former NCAA players
  • 74 players from U SPORTS and the CCAA (Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association)
  • 4 non-American players from Barbados, Lithuania, Netherlands and South Sudan

More than 50 LECB games will be broadcast live nationally on TSN and Game+ this season, in addition to eight games presented in French on RDS. Fans can also watch all regular season, playoff and Championship Weekend games live on CEBL+ powered by BetVictor, TSN+ and the CEBL Mobile app for iOS and Android devices. Next Level Sports & Entertainment, the CEBL’s U.S. home, will broadcast 40 games for U.S. audiences in 2024, while the international streaming service, Courtside1891, will broadcast 27 games for subscribers outside of North America.

A league created by Canadians for Canadians with the mission of developing Canadian players, coaches, sports managers and referees, the LECB has the highest percentage of Canadian players of any professional league in the country, its rosters being composed 75% Canadian and with a record 10 players with NBA experience in their ranks in 2024.
