Speyer Turtles Baseball Team Starts Season Strong Despite Injuries

The Speyer Turtles baseball players started the new season with an almost perfect start to the season.

They took the lead in the table with 8:8 at home against the Worms Cannibals and 8:6 over the Beckerich Hedgehogs. Coach Frank Brzoska was a little worried because regular pitcher Maxim Pietrzala was out injured and there were a few injured players. But Jonny Collet took a break from his vacation, drove for a few hours and supported his team.

Result unusual

Collet started out as a pitcher. Due to some negligence in defense, the guests quickly got their first three points. The Turtles countered to make it 5:3 and were always slightly ahead. When Worms equalized in the last half, Speyer was no longer able to counter. The league’s time limit then led to the unusual draw.

Marco Geider and Darjan Vig were injured against Beckerich. Speyer’s defense remains unique. The broad, balanced squad provided relief. The Domstadt team led 3-1, with Jonathan Schröer celebrating his debut as a pitcher. In the third inning he didn’t pitch quite as consistently. In addition, his field was flawed.

At 7-6, Collet hit a home run and didn’t allow anything more as a pitcher. The season continues on Sunday, June 2nd.

That’s how they played

Geider (1/-), Bodenseh (1/2), Pollini (1/2), Vig (1/0), Collet (1/3), Hans Hammer (1/-), Schröer (1/-), Lars Hammer (1/-), Stelzer (-/1), Heck, Krämer, Rettinger, Ritter.
