Stan Wawrinka won the duel between the tennis veterans against Andy Murray at the start of the French Open. The Swiss beat the Briton 6:4, 6:4, 6:2 on Court Philippe Chatrier on Sunday evening and moved into the second round. The match between Wawrinka (39) and Murray (37) was the second oldest French Open fixture since the turn of the millennium.
After the end after 2 hours and 19 minutes, the two experienced tennis pros hugged each other at the net and chatted for a few seconds. “These are simply great, emotional moments,” said tennis icon Boris Becker on Eurosport: “It’s great to see these two giants of tennis live again.”
In addition to Wawrinka, Viktorija Golubic also started the tournament strongly. The Zurich native defeated Czech Barbora Krejcikova 7:6 (7:3), 6:4 and is in the second round of the French Open for the first time since 2016.
