Statistical Revolution in Major League Baseball: Gibson Takes Records from Babe Ruth

Even Babe Ruth involuntarily ends up under the ax of Cancel Culture.

Considered the greatest player of all time in baseball thanks to his records, both as a pitcher and as a hitter, he will have to give some of them to the lesser known but equally good Josh Gibson. After about 80 years of “forgetfulness”, in fact, Robinson and 3400 other African-American players have finally been included in the official statistics of Major League Baseball for the first time.

In the ’20s, ’30s and ’40s of the last century, black players were, in fact, prevented from playing in the MLB: therefore these athletes were forced to play abroad or participate in the Negro League, a “reserved” confederation of leagues to African-American players. This year, Negro League baseball player statistics were finally incorporated into Major League Baseball’s records, creating a rankings revolution in a sport where statistics are almost a religion.

And statistics in hand Gibson, although entered into the MLB hall of fame late in the 1970s, was greater than Ruth in some statistics.

MLB itself announced the statistical update. This means that the ranking of the best athletes is upset.

Gibson, considered one of the best power hitters in the history of all the leagues, will take away some records from Ty Cobb, nicknamed ‘The Georgia Peach’, and Babe Ruth nicknamed ‘The Child’.

African-American players were barred from Major League Baseball. In 1947, Jackie Robinson broke the racial barrier when he was hired by the Brooklyn Dodgers. Only then were they allowed to play in the major professional leagues in the USA. Negro League teams ended in 1960.

The MBL’s new decision comes three and a half years after seven Negro League sports laws active from 1920 to 1948 were recognized as major leagues. A move that opened up the recognition of the results achieved by around 3400 players.
