Struggles for Tigers Tübingen and Crailsheim in Basketball Bundesliga Relegation Battle

The Tigers Tübingen are on the verge of relegation from the Basketball Bundesliga. The Swabians lost their away game at EWE Baskets Oldenburg 63:79 (28:42) and remain bottom of the table after their ninth defeat in a row. With their fifth home win in a row, the Oldenburgers maintain ninth place and have thus secured a place in the pre-qualification (“play-ins”) for the playoffs.

After a false start, Tübingen were already 0:10 behind after three and a half minutes and were never in the lead throughout the entire game. For the guests, Erol Ersek fought against the defeat with 18 points, the Oldenburgers were led by Geno Crandall (20 points, eight rebounds, six assists) and Ebuka Izundu (18 points, nine rebounds).

The Tübingen team will only manage to stay in the league if they win their last two games, catch up with the MLP Academics Heidelberg and win the direct comparison with Heidelberg. The Academics could have sealed Tübingen’s relegation with a win against ratiopharm Ulm, but lost to the defending champions 57:73 (31:42) after a weak offensive performance. The Ulm team remain fifth in the table.

Crailsheim suffers a home defeat

The situation in the relegation battle is also still threatening for the Hakro Merlins Crailsheim: After an 82:109 (40:54) home defeat against the Bamberg Baskets, the Crailsheimers remain in second to last place and have one less win than Heidelberg. After their 14th win of the season, Bamberg still has the chance to climb into the play-in places.

The direct competitor Veolia Towers Hamburg lost at home against the Niners Chemnitz with 79:85 (39:44), but remains tenth with 15 wins. After their European Cup success, the Chemnitz team now won again in the BBL, where they had recently lost three times in a row, and are still in third place.
