Success Story: Local Badminton Club Hosts Departmental Youth Championship Final for the First Time

Sunday May 19, the day the Olympic flame passed through the Hautes-Pyrénées, there was also another big event for our department. Indeed, the Argelès-Gazost badminton club hosted the final of the departmental youth championship for the first time.

The departmental badminton committee 32-65 brings together the affiliated badminton clubs of Hautes-Pyrénées and Gers. If this Olympic sport has been very popular for many years in many departments, it still has difficulty taking its place in the Hautes-Pyrénées with only 3 clubs affiliated to the French Badminton Federation (Argelès-Gazost, Tarbes and Trie-sur-Baise).

The 2024 edition of the departmental Youth Championship therefore brought together 36 young people from the junior to junior categories at the Argelès-Gazost municipal gymnasium. The 6 young Argelésiens entered in this final did very well since four of them won a medal.

Hippolyte Frechet is titled departmental champion among juniors, Lubin Leclercq follows his elder in the junior category, Nohlan Riffault and Lani Bonnecarrere-Catois take third place in their category. The two youngest, Louison Leclercq and Marion Lacambra, will have taken advantage of this day to learn and come back stronger next year.
