The Evolution of the Midfield Triangle: Majeed Ashimeru’s Impact at RSC Anderlecht

The midfield triangle is a point that has posed questions for a long time at RSC Anderlecht. Majeed Ashimeru joined him on Sunday, but it remains to be seen whether Brian Riemer will continue on this path.

Brian Riemer has used a large number of trios to liven up his midfield this season. Mats Rits, Thomas Delaney, Théo Leoni, Mario Stroeykens, and now Majeed Ashimeru or Yari Verschaeren: very clever who can predict the face of the Anderlecht midfielder on Sunday against Racing Genk.

On the Union Saint-Gilloise pitch, Ashimeru joined the starting eleven for the first time since July… and a trip to the USG pitch, already. The Ghanaian made a good impression, as when he entered the game against Cercle de Bruges.

“Ashimeru deserved his start after his debut against Cercle,” confirms Philippe Albert on the set of The Tribune. The former RSCA also highlighted that the presence of Majeed Ashimeru freed up Thomas Delaney, who was more offensive than usual.

“Delaney had a great match both in terms of impact and creativity. He was much more creative than usual,” underlines Albert. Unfortunately, this new option also means that Neerpede’s “kid”, Théo Leoni, is sidelined, and the RTBF consultant appreciates it less.

“After the season he had, I remain convinced that Leoni deserves to be a starter. Perhaps instead of Rits or Delaney,” asks Philippe Albert. And we must add to this equation the return of Yari Verschaeren, whom Brian Riemer adores, and who is therefore applying for a starting place…
