The Future Looks Bright: Genoa Celebrates Gilardino’s Signature and Looks Ahead

The best note of the Roman evening was, as soon as the match was over, Gilardino’s official signature on the contract that binds him to Genoa for two years.
The rest was quite boring: Genoa lost due to the usual solitary defensive error, De Rossi was grateful for the gift after suffering considerably thanks to Gilardino, his friend from the glorious times.
The draw was all there: Roma, almost European, played around, stopped for 80 minutes by the more than dignified rossoblù line-up. Lukaku, after having done little or nothing during the match, found in the cloudless sky (i.e. without opposing heads) the possibility of scoring the decisive ball, saving the team from a performance, at a certain point, dangerous, failing to do a shot on goal, but only a lot of bullshit.
Now we look to the rossoblù future, waiting for the last match with Bologna at the Ferraris which at the moment we don’t know what time it will be played, so excellent is the organization of our football system. We hope that the game will not be played at 11:30 in the morning, perhaps on a working Monday.

It was said about the rossoblù tomorrow: it is clear that now the game shifts to the club and also, obviously, to Gilardino: we hope that the two protagonists will work with love and agreement, in order to materialize this “project”, begun splendidly in December 2022, right from the “spring” world of the technician.
So what will this Genoa need to improve further? It is necessary to start from a year and a half ago, with the honorable cadet championship played with the consequent direct promotion to Serie A and therefore this championship which has placed Genoa among the real surprises. A similar path for a newly promoted player is rare and if she were to win with Bologna she would be an excellent eleventh protagonist.
Let’s remember that the “poor” Gilardino played many parts of the championship without the full team. Only when he was able to have all the so-called starters (from Retegui, to Messias, to Malinovskyi, to Bani, to Vitinha) were the results and above all the game lacking.
The 46 points demonstrate that the team has grown and that, in our opinion, it is already capable of facing the next championship with dignity.

Among those who have really grown (they also demonstrated this in Rome there are Vogliacco and Thorsby who will certainly be important players. Just as the defensive frame connected to the midfield will probably need some tweaking. And above all the club will have to carefully check the issue of injuries : for example, will Messias, an absolute champion, be able to play at least two thirds of the championship in full matches? And will Vitinha, a very important goalscorer, potentially of absolute value, guarantee continuous physical efficiency?
It is well known that Genoa will and will only be able to spend if they sell: it has already been established that at least two top players will be sold. But the 30/40 million taken for Gudmundsson will be used for the redemptions (if decided) of Vitinha and Spence. Even Martinez, considered among the best in Serie A, could enrich the coffers, because a good goalkeeper (Perin?) can be found at affordable prices.
Genoa’s strength is that it starts from a base and a well-consolidated group and this is certainly the fundamental element for adding a few bricks and completing the “building”.
The rossoblù must not be discouraged for not having tasted the lamb: there are always the Bolognese tortellini to eat…
