After two years of retirement, the legendary Premier League player returned to the football world – this time as a coach. First, he trained strikers in the Dutch club where he took his first steps, and then he took over the local youth teams. After three years of gaining experience at Feyenoord, Robin van Persie decided to try his hand at coaching an Eredivisie team.
The winner was Heerenveen, which finished this season in 11th place in the table. The first press conference with the participation of the newly minted trainer took place on Tuesday. During a conversation with journalists, the 40-year-old talked about his team’s development plans. – I played my best football under the supervision of coaches who were like fathers to me. I certainly took that with me,” van Persie declared.
– It took a while to get used to the fact that as a coach you are no longer sitting in a luxurious bathtub and not everything is done for you. This job is much more complicated. But I know what I’m getting into, he added. At one point, the former Arsenal striker even boasted about his fishing achievements in Heerenveen. – I caught my first carp here – he said with a smile on his face, which made local journalists laugh.
Paweł Bochniewicz has been playing in the center of defense in the Dutch team for almost four years. This season, the three-time Polish representative played 31 matches, in which he scored three goals and made two assists.
