Doubts regarding the status of Kristaps Porzingis have been with Boston since the first round of the playoffs, but it seems that this uncertainty will end with the arrival of the Finals. According to Shams Charania, a journalist from The Athleticthe Celtics are optimistic about the Latvian’s chances of being present in Game 1, which will take place on June 6 at the TD Garden and will be the first step in Mazzulla’s team’s attempt to win the ring.
The Massachusetts team has survived the center’s absence very well so far, partly due to the great performance of Al Horford and partly because they have found rivals also hampered by physical problems. This, however, does not seem to be the situation in the Finals, to which if nothing changes both the Mavericks and Timberwolves would arrive without notable absences, and will force Boston to be at 100%.
These two teams actually boast a notable arsenal in the interior game, with Lively and Gafford becoming ideal partners for Doncic in Dallas and Towns and Gobert being fundamental pieces of Minnesota’s system on both sides of the court. It will therefore be important for Mazzulla to be able to count on Porzingis, capable of shining in rim protection and being an important threat from the three-point range in attack, tools with which he perfectly complements the rest of the team.

The latest rumors indicated that Kristaps’ return could have even occurred in the playoffs against Indiana if it had been extended, which, however, did not happen. This allows us to deduce that his recovery for the Finals is almost guaranteed, although Charania acknowledges that there are still a couple of problems that the player must leave behind before being cleared to play. But, with a week still ahead, everything indicates that he will have enough time for it.
