Sleman – The Indonesian U-16 National Team (Timnas) will soon be in action at the 2024 AFF U-16 Cup. The coach of the Indonesian U-16 National Team, Nova Arianto, talks about the targets for this event.
The biggest age group football competition in Southeast Asia, the 2024 AFF U-16 Cup, will be held in Solo, Central Java from 21 June to 4 July 2024.
The Indonesian U-16 national team has a brilliant record by winning the previous edition of the AFF U-16 Cup.
However, in this edition, Nova Arianto did not impose any targets on his squad.
“PSSI doesn’t have a target because the AFF Cup is a trial event,” said Nova to detikJogjaMonday (27/5/2024).
Nova recognizes the AFF Cup as a preparation event for the U-16 National Team to compete in the 2025 U-17 Asian Cup Qualification which will be held next October.
“For us, this is a preparation event to face the 2025 U-17 Asian Cup Qualification in October,” he explained.
Furthermore, the 44 year old coach also revealed that the U-16 National Team’s preparations had not encountered any obstacles.
Even though PSSI is not targeting him, Nova hopes that Garuda Muda can perform optimally in the AFF U-16 Cup so that later he can have a lot to say in the U-17 Asian Cup Qualification.
“There haven’t been any obstacles so far, there haven’t been any problems. Hopefully the players will be better prepared and make more progress in the future. So that later in the AFF Cup competition they can be more optimal,” concluded Nova.
