The organizing team of the CCI 4*-S in Bicton, Great Britain, announced yesterday the death of Georgie Campbell, victim of an accident during the cross country.
“It is with great regret that we announce that Georgie Campbell suffered a fatal accident while competing in the Bicton International Horse Trials in Devon, England this Sunday, May 26, 2024.”. With these words, the organizers of the CCI 4*-S of Bicton announced yesterday the terrible disappearance of Georgie Campbella thirty-six-year-old British rider, after a fall during the cross-country with Global Quest. “Medical professionals intervened immediately after her fall at obstacle 5b, but unfortunately she could not be saved”, specifies the competition organizing team. The eleven-year-old Irish horse was able to return to the stables without injury, after being examined by veterinarians. “In order to respect the family’s privacy at this extremely difficult and sad time, no further details will be disclosed”concluded the press release.
Playing at a high level for around twenty years, Georgie Campbell had competed up to the CCI 5*-L and represented Great Britain in Nations Cups. In December 2020, she married the completist Jesse Campbell, who notably represented New Zealand at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Together, the couple created the company Team Campbell Eventing.
