As league leaders with a lot of self-confidence, the judoka from TSB Ravensburg are heading to JC Rüsselsheim on Saturday. The duel at the traditional club is the third day of fighting in the 2nd Judo Bundesliga.

“Nobody could have imagined this a year ago, when TSB Ravensburg was still fighting in the Baden-Württemberg League and JC Rüsselsheim in the first league,” says TSB coach Uli Rothenhäusler. “Now we are competing against the multiple German team champions and former European Cup winners.”

We definitely want to take advantage of the current run.

JC coach Andreas Esper and his team are aiming for a return to the upper house. To make this work, the people of Rüsselsheim have licensed 36 starters for the league, 15 of them foreigners. On the first day of the fight, Rüsselsheim won 7:7 against ESV Ingolstadt, and the JC had the day off on the second day of the fight. In order to get close to a promotion place, the Hessians have to win their home fight against the promoted team from Upper Swabia. “We definitely want to use the current run and score points in Rüsselsheim in order to have a good starting position for the home fight against ESV Ingolstadt on June 29th,” says Rothenhäusler.

The offspring of the TSB Ravensburg have also been successful. In the Kuppelnauhalle, the Upper Swabians won the state championship title in the U13. Ravensburg was able to defend its title from the previous year, although numerous fighters from the previous year switched to a new age group.

The team of youth coach Christian Ließ defeated the Steinheim judo team 5:2 and in the semifinals the Leonbergers from the Roman Bauer judo school defeated 6:1. In the final, the TSB talents met VfL Sindelfingen. Ferdinand Schick (up to 37 kg) won, but then it was 1:3. Levi Pejic (up to 31 kg) and Felix Pusch (up to 46 kg) equalized for Ravensburg, and in the decisive fight Linus Frank (up to 34 kg) secured the title for TSB.
