Indonesian National team will face a busy agenda at the end of the year if it can qualify for the third phase 2026 World Cup qualification.

The Garuda squad will fight in the last two matches of the second phase of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, facing Iraq on June 6 and the Philippines on June 11. If they can get at least three points from these two matches, the Indonesian national team will certainly enter the third phase of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

If we can penetrate this phase, there will be two overlapping agendas, namely the 2026 World Cup qualifying matchday and the 2024 AFF Cup or ASEAN Championship.

A series of matches in the third phase of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup will take place on 14 and 19 November or just four days before the opening of the 2024 AFF Cup.

These close agendas gave rise to rumors about the formation of two Indonesian national teams.

Coach Shin Tae Yong answered the idea of forming two Red and White teams for different agendas.

“For the issue of two teams or staying with a team like this, maybe you have to discuss it first with Mr. Erick, the current general chairman of PSSI. So we will discuss it first and then we will decide what to do,” explained Shin before leading the Indonesian National Team training, Tuesday (28/5) afternoon.

In the second phase of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, Indonesia has a chance of advancing to the next round because it is in second place with seven points.

If they can enter the third phase, then Indonesia can also guarantee a direct ticket to the 2027 Asian Cup.
