Young Judokas Shine at French Championships: Representing Marmot Dojo with Pride

Three young judokas from the Marmot dojo obtained excellent results during the Zone Championships which bring together the best fighters from the departments of Tarn, Aveyron, Lot and Tarn-et-Garonne. Following this great success, they represented the local dojo at the French championships which took place in Clermont-Ferrand on May 18 and 19.

It is the magnificent hall of the Arténium de Ceyrat in Clermont-Ferrand which hosts each season this major event bringing together 80 to 100 fighters per weight category, i.e. more than 3,000 judokas over the 2 days.

On Saturday, Alexandre Serre in less than 50 kg was competing in the French cadet championship. Complicated start but he recovered well, he found his judo, particularly his floor routines, and reached the round of 16. A draw not at all in his favor since he lost to a formidable opponent who will end up champion of France. Great journey for Alexandre for his first experience at national level in this category.

Sunday, Mathis Noël in less than 55 kg and Raphaël Courtial unfortunately not in the weight in less than 66 kg, therefore lined up in less than 73 kg were them in the French Espoirs Championship.

Raphaël, despite his change of category, entered courageously from his first fight with interesting intentions. But he was surprised during the second. A change in weight category which obviously complicated his task at this level. Nothing to regret however, he showed a great attitude and real qualities. Hopefully this will encourage him to obtain a future black belt.

Mathis was also in difficulty from his first fight. He got rolled up against a very fast and technical fighter. No more room for error on the 2nd. Trailing again in the first action we think that the end of the competition is near for him but a burst of pride… He reacted in a beautiful way and scores ippon on a sutemi although not his specialty and opens the way to the final table . He will stop in 32nd against a strong opponent. A lot of frustration and disappointment for him but an honorable journey like his two training buddies.

There is still a lot of work and progress left. Next year they will all be educated in Rodez and will be able to train 2 to 3 times a week in the main dojo. A preparation which should allow them to be much more efficient.

Congratulations to the three of them for this great adventure and thank you for defending the marmot colors at the national level.
