2. Bundesliga: Miroslav Klose becomes new coach at 1. FC Nuremberg

Miroslav Klose will be the new head coach of 1. FC Nuremberg. The second division club announced this. The 2014 world champion will succeed Christian Fiél, who left the club at the beginning of June. Klose signed a two-year contract and is set to train with the team for the first time on June 24 in preparation for the new Bundesliga season.

Klose said he was “hugely” looking forward to working at Nuremberg. He has known sporting director Joti Chatzialexiou, with whom he is “on the same wavelength” in many respects, for many years. “Now it’s time to get going, get to work and get the season on the right track.”

“Miro is an extremely meticulous and detail-obsessed coach who has not only experienced and learned a lot during his successful playing career, but has also developed a clear idea as a coach of how to be successful in football and what is needed for that on the pitch and in the dressing room,” said sporting director Joti Chatzialexiou. They have a lot planned.

Stations in Bavaria and Austria

Last week, Chatzialexiou announced how the club wants to position itself in the coming period: He envisions a “good axis with two or three leading players” around which new talents should grow – similar to successful teams such as Leverkusen or Stuttgart. This will now be Klose’s task. In addition, the signing of the 46-year-old should help with transfers.

Klose has already worked as a coach at the Austrian club SCR Altach. Before that, he gained coaching experience with the U17 team of FC Bayern Munich and as assistant coach of the professionals. He also worked for the DFB after his playing career ended. Klose said he “didn’t have to think long” about the offer from Nuremberg.

The long-time national player became world champion with Germany in 2014. Klose is also the record goalscorer at the World Cup with a total of 16 goals.
