June 28, 2024, at the socio-cultural hall of Saint Martin des Champs: nearly 170 athletes and volunteers from 23 sports associations attended the Sportsmen’s Evening. Christian Cossec, deputy mayor in charge of associative and sports dynamics, on behalf of the entire City of Avranches rewarded them for this year’s achievements and revealed the names of the three 2024 winners.
Rewarded for their exceptional results*
Each club or school had previously designated its winners:
- In individual sports, the clubs proposed three of their most deserving athletes of the year.
- For team sports, the clubs presented a team that they would like to see rewarded.
- In addition, each club was able, in addition to the athletes, to designate a volunteer that they wish to highlight.
Each club was awarded a trophy in recognition of the work it does for the sport.
Educational institutions
– Challemel-Lacour College: the climbing team composed of Eva Cretaud-Delahaye (6th), Lysandre Garnier (5th), Inès Hau (6th) and Antonin Poudret-Joubert (3rd) won the title of UNSS departmental champion in the “shared sport” category.
– CLa Chaussonnière College: the gymnasts Chloé Le Gourrierec, Ambre Levionnois, Léna Gourmelin-Robin, and Laurette Ozenne, supervised by national judge Marylou Yver, finished 1st at the Normandy UNSS excellence championship in Caen and 12th at the French championship in Cabestany.
– Notre-Dame de la Providence College: swimmers. Line Ménard took 3rd place in the UGSEL French Championship in the 100m freestyle and is the regional champion. Aubin Aubrée is the UGSEL French Champion in the 100m butterfly. The volleyball team, composed of Albane Bodin, Margaux Brière, Lou Gavard, Lyla Piquois, Yoline Rousseau, Emilie Viallet, and Lucy Wren, ranked 2nd at the regional level.
– Lycée Littré: The triathlon team, with Rose Hennequin, Lou Cupial, Gaspar Feys, and Paul Coursin, finished 8th in the French championship.
Sports Clubs:
– Avenir Ducey Avranches : Antoine Letourneur was crowned champion of the Channel in the junior category. Aristide Roc and Timéo Lebailly were named vice-champions of the Channel.
– Avranchin Climbing Club : Line Aubrée is regional champion in U12 and ranked 34th in the French championship. Orlane Georges finished 3rd in the regional championship and 40th in the French championship. Zoé Liu is vice-champion of Normandy and 38th in the French championship. Léon Le Roux is regional vice-champion and 34th nationally.
– Bay Gymnastics Club : Loryne Decalf was recognized for her volunteer commitment.
– Avranchese Petanque : Régis Condette was honored for his voluntary work.
– Les Archers des Abrincates: Jacky Nicolas won his 3rd FFSA French Champion title. Amandine Leconte had a good indoor season. Siméo Bardou Bordais took 5th place in the departmental indoor championship and is the departmental outdoor champion.
– US St Martin, St Jean de la Haize : The U18 team, led by captain Clément Lebarbey, had a good run in the Gambardella Cup and was a semi-finalist in the Manche Cup.
– Saint-Michel d’Avranches : The U15 basketball team won 11 victories out of 15 matches this season and finished first in the second phase of the championship.
– Union Badminton, Club de La Baie : Ronan Berlot is the Channel and Normandy champion in the chick category. Nathan Dubosq is the Channel champion in men’s doubles. Aurore Provost is present as a volunteer.
– Sports Committee, Kickboxing 50 : Nicolas Mariou is vice-champion of Normandy and France in kick light and K1 rules light. Luc Philisot is champion of Normandy and bronze medalist at the French championship.
– Volleyball of the Strikes : the women’s team successfully completed its first year at the departmental level.
– Rugby Club Saint Martin Avranches : the senior team finished 2nd in the Normandy Regional 3 championship and was finalist in the Regional 3 championship.
– Avranches Mont Saint-Michel Sports Union : The U16 team qualified for the final of the Normandy Cup and finished 2nd in its Regional 1 group.
– Avranches Cycling Club : Jules Varin finished 2nd in the Manche youth trophy. Killian Briand is vice-champion of Normandy and winner of the neighborhood GP in Avranches. Anthony Guillaume finished 3rd at the Normandy championship in access 3. Michel Gasnier was recognized for his volunteering.
– Aikido Club of Avranches : Nicolas Barbet obtained the first Dan black belt. Adrien Souil obtained the Aikido brown belt.
– Avranches Athletic Club : Tia Laurent completed a triathlon with 71 points. Raphaël Nwazuoke scored 75 points at the Avranches meeting and is a member of the Manche team. Malo Le Vigneron is champion of the Channel with 3862 points in the minimal octathlon and completed a triathlon with 101 points.
– Avranches Tennis Club : Apolline Duclos won the individual youth championship of La Manche in the 15/16 year-old category and plays in the first team in Women’s Excellence.
– Avranches Canoe Club : The U15 team, composed of Valentin Royer, Gabriel Lalouz, Luan Bindel, Nina Capitaine, Karl Robert, Malo Marie dit Dinard, Lucas Martin, and Matis Vautier, was the 2023 French champion. Mathéo Lebarbier was their coach. Guillaume Beaufils was a volunteer.
– Avranches Baseball Club : The adult team, including Nathalie Coquelin, Mélanie Coadou, Willy Joseph, Noah Joseph, Lorys Joseph, Ethan Leguillochet, and Sophie Voisin Cherie, participated in several tournaments, placing 5th out of 9 in Rennes and 10th out of 19 in La Guerche from Brittany.
Sportsmen of the year 2024
The City is honoring 3 athletes as Champions of the year because of their exceptional results. Each winner received a prize offered by the City of Avranches.
– The Bay Gymnastics Club was particularly distinguished for its performances at the departmental, interdepartmental, regional and national levels.
– Avranchinese Pétanque was honored for her achievements in para-petanque.
– Clementine Piednoel recognized for her commitment as a referee.
This evening was an opportunity to celebrate not only the sporting performances, but also the commitment of the volunteers who support these young talents. Congratulations to all participants and see you next year for new exploits!
