La Paz, June 30, 2024 (ATB Digital).- Primary and secondary students from El Alto took the Olympic oath during the inauguration of the 2024 Student Sports Games, organized by the Mayor’s Office of El Alto, where, in competition, they will discover new talents in various disciplines.
“Nowadays, young people are worried about cell phones and what we want is to encourage sports. At this event, we have been with more than 10 medalists, who have lit the torch. We see that this is important for them and from these meetings we get our potential representatives from El Alto,” informed the Municipal Secretary of Human and Integral Social Development, Herlan Cabrera.
With a musical demonstration, saber handling exhibition and the sports oath, the sporting event was inaugurated, which brings together 205 educational units, both private, public and agreement. More than 18,000 students are enrolled for various disciplines.
Athletes are competing in chess, swimming, indoor soccer, basketball and volleyball. Additionally, high school students will compete in track and field and badminton.
Cabrera mentioned that the main objective of the event is to promote physical activity and, in this way, promote health. He said that currently physical activity is essential to prevent obesity, diabetes and stress.
He detailed that the games will take place in different sports spaces in the 14 districts. The first phase will take place in August and the second phase until September.
