The 2024 Summer Olympics will take place in Paris from July 26 to August 11!
Olympics in the “City of Love”. However, there was less love for some of the sports. In December 2020, it was decided which disciplines from the Olympic calendar would fly to Paris.
This year, new Olympic champions are being sought in a total of 32 sports and 48 disciplines. This has changed:
Which sports will no longer be Olympic in 2024?
Unlike the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, karate, baseball and softball will not be part of the Paris event. In athletics, the 50-kilometer walk has been canceled, and five events in weightlifting have been canceled.
These disciplines are out:
- Karate
- Baseball (for men)
- Softball (for women)
- Men’s 50 km walk (replaced by mixed relay walk)
- Weightlifting Men’s Bantamweight and Middleweight
- Women’s weightlifting bantamweight and middleweight (featherweight is replaced by flyweight)

There are a few new disciplines – including a completely new sport!
The disciplines of surfing, sport climbing and skateboarding will be back in 2024. The so-called “breaking” is completely new.
The dance sport celebrated its Olympic debut at the 2018 Summer Youth Games in Buenos Aires. Breaking was successfully tested at the 2023 finals. Now, breaking is set to be included in the Olympic program for the first time as a summer dance sport.
At the 2024 Olympic Games, the breakdance competition will be split into two events, one for men and one for women. A jury will determine the winner in individual battles.
These disciplines are new:
- Breaking
- Kayak Cross for men and women
- Kitesurfing for men and women
- Speed competition for men and women in sport climbing
- New mixed events in shooting
More mixed competitions, but fewer decisions! Overall, the number of decisions has been reduced to 329. That’s a full ten fewer than we had at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
