25 years of Fieri Fossato: always defending an ideal

The party for twenty-five years of activity took place on Saturday 8 June Fieri Fossato, the historic group of the Dorian South Gradinata born in 1999. A moment of celebration in which an important space was also carved out to discuss current and pressing issues concerning the ultras movement. A debate in which we participated together with Pierluigi Spagnolo (journalist for the Gazzetta dello Sport and author of the book “The rebels of the stadiums”) and to some exponents of the Blucerchiati, Terni and Porto fans. A way to retrace both the quarter of a century of the group and of our ultras movement in parallel. Fifteen decades in which the Italian fan scene has undergone important upheavals, especially from a repressive, managerial and “morphological” point of view, with the dissolution of many important groups but also a generational change capable of carrying on the cart and facing the new and arduous battles we found ourselves faced with. The evening was divided into three sections, corresponding to three historical eras: from the foundation of the group to 2007 (death of Inspector Raciti, first bans and gradual imposition of the fan card), from 2009 to 2017 (memorandum of understanding) and , finally, from the pandemic to the present day. Years of struggle, internal clashes and often distant positions between groups from the same country, but the certainty of still standing and representing a firm point – perhaps the last – for our national sport. Obviously the issue of bans had great importance, which in the season just ended affected the Blucerchiati fans very closely, forced to stay at home for a good part of the away games, marked “at risk” by the now implacable National Observatory on Sports Events. Bans that often also concern material whose exposure, calmly permitted in times of peace, becomes the object of total censorship, an instrument of retaliation in the face of fan turbulence.

The evening was then characterized by the beautiful photographic exhibition set up by the boys of the group, with shots relating to each season in which the banner was present in the stands. A way to see with your own eyes “how we were” and “how we became”. Just as always, the display of the old flags, no longer present today, is very fascinating Marassi in order to avoid the bureaucratic hassle of authorisations. Doriani, also from the other organized groups of the South, twinned with Verona, Ternana and Porto, in short, many people who participated both in the debate and in the party, pouring into the Pontedecimo neighborhood en masse and confirming how the aggregative attitude of the ultras still constitutes a a fixed point for many generations. An important showcase also for a group that in recent years – in line with the mindset of the South Staircase – has made the motto “to be and not to appear” a real strong point, which is always appreciable in a historical moment in which the “oddity” perhaps is not crowding social media every day or releasing at least ten press releases every year. We will find them at the starting line for next year, in which the Blucerchiati fans – like all the others – will once again be called upon to face the repressive and restrictive wave advocated by the usual suspects. A glimmer of hope remains that certain requests will be carried forward and perhaps even overcome, thanks above all to the clear injection of young talent and new forces that has affected a large part of our local fans. For those who find themselves occupying the stands today and tomorrow it will certainly be tough, there will be many obstacles to overcome or, at least, get around. Here, what must continue to be carried forward is the sense of rebellion and – where possible – preservation of the little freedom that remains on the subject of the stadium. Because the ultras, however well rooted in everyday life, cannot live and survive away from the stands.
