About 400 participants / Day will take part in the biggest parasport festival in Sigulda

The Latvian Paralympic Committee is pleased with the great response of those who want to play sports, which once again confirms the importance of the Paralympic movement in Latvia. Parasports Day has already become a tradition that allows people with different types of disabilities to socialize and try different adapted and Paralympic sports. It is also an opportunity for the participants of the event to take a step closer to parasports and a healthy lifestyle, while for coaches and representatives of sports – to find new people who want to play sports.

Champion of the European and Paralympic Games, para-athlete Diāna Krūmiņa: “I am happy that this event is being held in Sigulda for the second year in a row. This proves how suitable and adapted this place is, not only for my training, but also for organizing large-scale events for people with different types of disabilities, where they can feel free. I would really like to see more children and young people at this event, so that moms and dads can see how strong their children are and of course find a young talented athlete with a big, bright future.”

Latvia’s most decorated paralympian, Aigars Apinis: “Children, young people and all other interested parties will have the opportunity to get acquainted with various types of parasports and understand their essence, as well as existing paraathletes will show exemplary demonstrations in their sports. Usually, this type of activity attracts young athletes and coaches, which is also the purpose and essence of this event, as well as meeting and being together with friends and colleagues. People from various municipalities are involved in such events, promoting cooperation with the Latvian Paralympic Committee. I wish everyone to enjoy this pleasant day in Sigulda and visit the Sigulda Sports Center!”

Evita Jurjāne-Nelsone, head of sales, marketing and customer relations of “Mēnes Aptiekas”, board member: “We, the team of “Mēness Aptiekas”, see that a modern society is one that thinks about the health and well-being of all residents, in which everyone has access to opportunities to be with friends, play sports together and enjoy achievements, always move towards new higher goals and fulfill them! Therefore, we are sure that the parasports movement in Latvia plays an important role and that we can achieve the goals of an increasingly inclusive society together. May everyone have a healthy day filled with sporting excitement!”

Kristaps Zaļais, Deputy Chairman of Sigulda County Municipal Council: “We are sure that sport unites and makes people stronger both in body and spirit, so we were happy to welcome guests to Parasport Day in Sigulda for the second year. Satisfaction with athletes and traditions that continue. It is important for us that everyone can play sports, and we can see and be pleased with people who, being with special needs, show their unlimited potential and power in various disciplines. It inspires others! That is why we also try to create an environment in Sigulda county so that everyone can use their potential or get involved in other activities related to health promotion closer to home.”

On this year’s Parasport Day, its participants will have the opportunity to get acquainted and try their hand at four team sports – Boccia, sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball and goalball, as well as eleven individual sports – mechanical rowing on Concept II ergometers, swimming for people with physical disabilities (movement disorders), table in tennis, shooting, wheelchair tennis, tandem cycling, para-cycling, goalball; in several athletics disciplines – discus and javelin throwing, running, long jump, shot put, wheelchair running, basketball free throws.

Residents and guests of Sigulda are also invited to the event, who will be able to observe the progress of the competition, as well as leave their wishes for our Paralympians, who are going to the Paris Paralympic Games, in the “Bite Latvija” tent. On the day of parasports in Sigulda, with the support of “Mēnes Aptiekas”, there will also be a “Health Stop”, where it will be possible to measure blood pressure, receive informative materials about health and consult a pharmacist.

The Parasports Day is organized by the Latvian Paralympic Committee in cooperation with our great friend “Mēness Aptieka” and Sigulda County Municipality.
