Adel Mechaal avoids a hecatomb in the semifinals of the 1,500 meters

The palamósí Adel Mechaalwith a fourth place in his semi-final series, he acceded to the final of the 1.500 metres of the Europeans of Roma.

Thirty-seven hours after contesting the final of the 5,000 meters, in which he was fourth, Mechaal jumped back onto the track at the Olympic Stadium in Rome to run the semifinals of the 1,500.

Mechaal started the race very well, even being in first position for much of the course, but the finish was too long for him and he ended up being overtaken by three athletes to come in fourth with a time of 3.44.19, his worst mark of the season so far in the distance, as in the previous three races, he had dropped from 3.36.

The fastest was the British Neil Gourley with 3.44.05, mark of the season.
