AFF U-16 Cup Results: Laos Beat Philippines 3-0

Laos U-16 beat Philippines U-16 3-0 in the opening match AFF U-16 Cup 2024 at Manahan Stadium, Solo, Friday (21/6) afternoon.

From the first minute Laos immediately pressed. However, Filipino players responded to this pressure calmly. Throughout the first 10 minutes, the game was fairly flat.

Both teams seemed to be playing waiting game. Don’t want to rush so that you are lured into the strategy set by your opponent. After 30 minutes of the match, the Filipino players seemed to be starting to get tired.

As a result, in the 39th minute, Laos managed to open the scoring. Daophahad’s kick could not be blocked by the Filipino goalkeeper. Laos ended the first half with a 1-0 lead.

After halftime, precisely in the 49th minute, Laos doubled their lead. Laos exploited the negligence of the Philippines defense, resulting in Sambalod’s own goal.

After the goal, the Philippines tried to get back up by pressing back. Unfortunately Laos’ defense was solid, so the Young Azkals couldn’t penetrate it.

In the final 10 minutes of the match Laos made a substitution. This was done by Kanlaya Sysomvang, the Laos coach, because some of his players were starting to get tired.

In injury time, precisely the 90+10th minute, when the match seemed to be over, Laos scored another goal. This time Laos’ goal was created by substitute Vongdeuan.

This result makes Laos temporarily lead the Group A standings with perfect points, three. A good first step towards the opportunity to qualify for the semifinals.

After this match there will be a match between the Indonesian U-16 National Team and Singapore at the same stadium. This will be a test for Nova Arianto’s team.
