After his title at Roland-Garros, Alcaraz makes a successful return to grass at Queen’s

As during several of his matches at Roland-Garros two weeks ago – notably the final – Carlos Alcaraz had less good moments this Tuesday, for his entry into the running in the ATP 500 tournament at Queen’s which marked the start of his season on grass. But as at Roland-Garros, the Spaniard, world number 2, won against Francisco Cerundolo (6-1, 7-5). He will face the winner of the Mariano Navone – Jack Draper match in the next round.

Not everything was easy for the young Spaniard (21 years old). If he largely dominated the first set, he did not go far from a third set after being broken from the start by Cerundolo and having conceded three set points in the second. But Alcaraz was able to tighten the game with good first balls to hold his throw then break and finally take the Argentinian’s serve with a much more clinical game, proof that he is definitely capable of raising his voice every time It’s necessary to conclude matches or sets that are sometimes poorly started.

Title holder at Wimbledon, Alcaraz is also at Queen’s, where he won his first tournament on grass last year by beating Alex de Minaur in the final. The Australian, now 7th in the world (his best ranking) since the last update of the ATP ranking, was eliminated in the first round by Lorenzo Musetti.
