Águilas Cibaeñas acquire left-hander Enny Romero from El Escondido

SANTIAGO.- Ángel Ovalles, general manager of the Águilas Cibaeñas, announced the acquisition of veteran left-handed starter Enny Romero from the Leones del Esído, who received right-handed pitchers Odalvi Javier and Brayan Castillo.

Romero is a pitcher with vast experience in the Dominican League who projects to be an important piece of the opening day rotation of the 22-time champions.

The 33-year-old left-hander has an excellent 3.05 ERA in 180 innings, with 153 strikeouts and 52 walks over 10 seasons in LIDOM. His defensive independent effectiveness (FIP) is an excellent 2.58, according to winterballdata.com. He has made 83 appearances, 28 as a starter.

Romero has also pitched nearly 200 innings in post-season games, maintaining his same level of performance with a 3.27 PCL.

Originally signed by the Tampa Bay Rays, he has Major League experience with the Rays, Washington, Pittsburgh and Kansas City. He also spent four seasons in the Japanese League with the Chunichi Dragons and Chiba Lotte Marines.

Ovalles was very pleased to add a pitcher of Romero’s experience and career, while wishing Javier and Castillo good luck in the rest of their respective careers.
