Aiming for Glory: Alexander Zverev Reflects on French Open Final Defeat and Eyes Wimbledon Success

It has been almost ten days since the final of the French Open in Paris.

The sting of the bitter 2:3 defeat in the final at Roland Garros against Carlos Alcaraz still runs deep for Alexander Zverev.

Before his first start at the grass tournament in Halle, Zverev looks back on the painful defeat: “I have actually won everything there is – except a Grand Slam title. I have been world champion, twice. I have become Olympic champion, have won all kinds of ATP tournaments. All I am missing is a major victory.”

“I don’t want to end up as one of the most successful tennis players who has never won a Grand Slam,” the German continues.

Zverev has already reached a Grand Slam final twice in his career. The 27-year-old lost the first to Dominic Thiem despite leading by two sets in the 2020 US Open final. A week ago in Paris, Alcaraz again squandered a set lead.

But the German assures that the defeat in the final is now “over”. At the ATP 500 tournament in Halle, Zverev is preparing for his third Grand Slam victory of the year in Wimbledon. There he could finally win the long-awaited major title.

The 27-year-old also has another goal: “Of course, number 1 is a goal for me and a topic this year.” Zverev is currently ranked fourth in the world rankings.
