Albania Surprises Croatia with Early Lead in European Championship Match

Albania took an early lead in the European Championship match against Croatia. In the eleventh minute, the underdog opened the score through a header by Qazim Laci, just after a remarkable action by the Ajax defender.

In the tenth minute of the match, Laci sent a long ball towards the penalty area, after which Sutalo hit the ball completely wrong. In an attempt to clear the ball, he shot the ball far up, after which Albania regained possession. That ball possession led to the 0-1 twenty seconds later.

From the right flank, Jasir Asani sent a cross, which was headed in by Laci. Laci was released by Sutalo and Marcelo Brozovic in the penalty area. They were still somewhat close; centre-back Josko Gvardiol was nowhere to be seen. Goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic also did not look very strong after the header.

Journalist Henk Spaan concludes in a tweet that Sutalo has become worth ‘another five million euros less’ after the first half. Sutalo is the only Eredivisie player with a starting place in Croatia. With Borna Sosa (Ajax) and Luka Ivanusec (Feyenoord), there are still two Eredivisie players on the bench.

A striking moment after the match between Hungary and Switzerland.
