Alejandro Tabilo Makes History with ATP 250 Win in Mallorca

Alejandro Tabilo continues his crazy season. The Chilean, winner of Gaël Monfils (2-6, 6-2, 7-6 [3]) in the semi-finals on Friday, won the ATP 250 in Mallorca on Saturday at the expense of the Austrian Sebastian Ofner (54th), beaten in two sets (6-3, 6-4). The second of his career after that in Auckland (hard) in January and therefore his first on grass: he also became the first Chilean in the Open era to be titled on grass.

In 2024, the Toronto-born Chilean also reached the final in Santiago (clay) in February, won the Challenger 175 in Aix-en-Provence and reached the semi-finals of the Masters 1000 in Rome in May after notably beating Novak Djokovic, then world number 1.

The 27-year-old left-hander, who was 85th at the start of the season, will be 19th on Monday, joining his compatriot Nicolas Jarry in the top 20 whom he will overtake. This will be the first time since March 2005 (Fernando Gonzalez and Nicolas Massu) that two Chileans are in the top 20.

At Wimbledon, Tabilo will face Dan Evans (61st) in the first round while Ofner, aged 28, will face Australian Aleksandar Vukic (81st).
