Alessandro Sibilio suffers from muscle strain, what happened to the 400m star? Thrills for the Olympics

Alessandro Sibilio had to give up the 400 hurdles final within the Italian Overall Championships of athletics. The European vice champion was unable to take to the track in La Spezia due to a muscle strain in the left hamstring (therefore behind the thigh), accused just ten minutes from the call-room in view of the final act on the lap of the track with barriers on Ligurian soil.

There was great anticipation for the talented Campanian, who had won the silver medal in Rome behind the Norwegian phenomenon Karsten Warholm and who in this Italian event was looking for a brilliant technical and competitive confirmation, after beating the historic Italian record by the iconic Fabrizio Mori and dropped to 47.50. The apparently very fragile physique of Gianpaolo Ciappa’s student presented the bill once again.

Injuries had severely weakened him after playing in the final at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, but he managed to return to prominence with great personality. The hope is that today’s problem is not so serious and that Alessandro Sibilio can recover promptly to be a great protagonist at the Olympics of Paris 2024, where he has all the credentials to enter the final and try to compete for a medal in a highly competitive international panorama.

There is talk of a precautionary stop and there does not seem to be any concern within the Azzurri staff, in the next few days all the necessary checks will be carried out. The Italian title was won by Giacomo Bertoncelliprotagonist of a solo and a decent 49.80. Behind him were Mario Lambrughi (50.51) and José Reynaldo Bencosme De Leon (51.10), off the podium Riccardo Berrino (51.40) and Francesco Moreno Ibidi (51.72).
