Alexander Zverev Cleared of Assault Allegations: Considered Innocent After Court Decision

Alexander Zverev (27) achieved his most important victory outside of the tennis court. The Berlin-Tiergarten district court has closed the case against the world star and lifted the penal order imposed against him. Zverev is therefore considered innocent!

His ex-girlfriend Brenda Patea (30) had accused the tennis professional of strangling her with both hands on the night of May 20-21, 2020. This was not confirmed in court.

The dismissal, which the public prosecutor, Zverev’s defense and Patea as co-plaintiff have agreed to, includes a fine of 200,000 euros for the tennis star. Of this, 150,000 euros will go to the state treasury and 50,000 euros to a fund for charitable organizations. This is standard practice in such dismissals.

In a press release, his lawyers Dr. Anna Sophie Heuchemer and Katharina Dierlamm wrote: “Alexander Zverev agreed to this dismissal through his defense attorney solely to shorten the proceedings – above all in the interest of their child. Alexander Zverev is still considered innocent. The dismissal does not constitute a finding of guilt or an admission of guilt. The legal presumption of innocence remains unaffected.”

The trial came about because the Berlin-Tiergarten district court had issued a penalty order against Zverev in the amount of 450,000 euros (90 daily rates of 5,000 euros each) in October 2023. The Olympic champion lodged an appeal against this.

According to BILD information, Patea, who appeared as a co-plaintiff, contradicted herself and stuttered after just a few questions from presiding judge Barbara Lüders during her questioning on Monday. Tears are also said to have flowed.

The model then asked for a break and had her lawyer Michael Nitschke say: “She is not well, she is hoarse, has a fever. She has to go to bed.” According to BILD information, Patea completely withdrew her accusations against her ex. She was not present at the court’s decision.

The same goes for Zverev, who will play for a place in the final of the French Open in Paris this afternoon. He was represented at the hearing by his defense attorneys Prof. Alfred Dierlamm and Katharina Dierlamm, as well as his media attorney Dr. Anna Sophie Heuchemer from the Schertz Bergmann law firm.

At the start of the trial, Prof. Alfred Dierlamm had already announced in a twelve-page statement that he would present new evidence relevant to the case during the course of the proceedings that had not been taken into account by the public prosecutor and was not known to the court. “The evidence will show that the complainant was not strangled and therefore did not have any injuries. The suspicion raised is based solely on the complainant’s claims, which are, however, lies and in no way reliable.”

For example, a few hours after the alleged choking incident in May 2020, Pateau was shopping on Amazon for 461.23 euros. Over the course of the month, she continued shopping online – for a total of 3755.33 euros, including 1770 euros at Gucci. She paid for everything with Zverev’s credit card.

“Is this how someone behaves when they have just been strangled almost to the point of unconsciousness?” asked Dierlamm at the start of the trial. “Why didn’t she go to the doctor to have the alleged injuries properly documented?”

Zverev could now sue his ex for false accusation or defamation. But according to BILD information, the tennis star does not want to do that out of consideration for their daughter (3).
