Alexander Zverev’s Post French Open Plans: A Trip to Switzerland, a Visit to Berlin, and Wimbledon Prep

A flight to Switzerland on Monday, then on to Berlin to see his girlfriend Sophia Thomalla and a few days’ break: that’s Alexander Zverev’s plan after losing the French Open final. In Berlin, there is “a very important person that I want to see. And we’ll look after that,” Zverev explained on Sunday evening in Paris after the 3:6, 6:2, 7:5, 1:6, 2:6 against Carlos Alcaraz.

The 27-year-old had originally registered for the grass tournament in Stuttgart, which begins on Monday. There he is the top seed in the draw, and thanks to a bye he would only enter the round of 16 in the middle of the week. But the fact that he will make the switch from clay to grass almost seamlessly after the exhausting two weeks in Paris is “about as likely as me going out again and winning the final,” he joked.

The Olympic champion wants to start the short grass court season with the highlight being Wimbledon (July 1 to July 14) in Halle/Westphalia (June 17 to 23). Shortly after Wimbledon, he will be heading back to Paris: the Olympic tennis tournament will take place at Roland Garros from July 27 to August 4. Before that, the ATP 500 clay court tournament will take place in his hometown of Hamburg, where he is the defending champion.
