“Hailey is a pure scorer. She shoots from outside with a high percentage, but can also go to the basket,” Marburg coach Patrick Unger is quoted as saying in the press release. In the current season, the 1.80 meter tall winger has collected an average of 17.9 points in just under 32 minutes of playing time, with a 38 percent three-point percentage, as well as 4.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists.

Hailey Leidel wants to “help the team grow”

“She has defined herself at her various stations through her scoring, and I hope that she can give us that too,” but, and this is just as important to him: “Her focus is on the team,” says the 41-year-old coach, who is putting together the team for his eleventh season with BC Marburg.

“When I spoke with Coach Unger, I could sense his desire and passion to win as well as his passion to develop players so that they can be successful both on and off the field,” Leidel is quoted as saying by her future club. She wants to “help this team grow while I get to know everything there and explore such a beautiful city and country.”

And the American has already gotten around a bit: In the 2023/24 season, Leidel played for the Young Angels Kosice in the Extraliga in Slovakia, averaging just under 30 minutes of play in 12 games and scoring 17.7 points with a 33 percent three-point percentage, 6 rebounds and 2.6 assists.

The American has several international assignments behind her

In 2023, the American won the championship in Cyprus and was voted MVP. Before that, Leidel played in the 1st divisions in Sweden, Greece and Luxembourg. Leidel finished her college career with the most three-pointers and as the third-best scorer in the history of the University of Massachusetts in Amherst (USA).

The Bundesliga season begins on the last weekend in September. The schedule has not yet been finalized.

BC Marburg was relegated in March as second-to-last in the Bundesliga. Exactly three months later, the league gave the team from Hesse a wildcard, as well as the bottom-placed team from Leverkusen. Both teams from the 2nd league that were eligible for promotion had decided not to go for promotion.
