Anderlecht’s Transfer Dilemma: Will Sevilla Loanees Stay or Go?

Will they stay or not? That is the big question in Anderlecht at the moment. Not only for veterans Jan Vertonghen and Kasper Schmeichel, but also for the loanees from Sevilla. The Spaniards themselves seem prepared to lend a hand.

Federico Gattoni chose to return to Argentina, but Ludwig Augustinsson and Thomas Delaney both made it clear that they would like to extend their stay at Lotto Park. Since the duo were both allowed to use their seats in Seville, nothing seemed to stand in the way of a permanent transfer.

Seville must cut costs

What’s more: here and there there was already talk of an agreement at club level, whereby the experienced left back and midfielder Purple & White would each cost two million. That was firmly denied shortly afterwards. Now it appears that the Brussels team could incorporate them both at an even more favourable rate.

Spanish sources report that Sevilla is considering unilaterally terminating Augustinsson and Delaney’s expiring contracts. Finally, the sky-high wage burden must be reduced as quickly as possible. Superfluous pawns that weigh on the budget, such as the Swede and the Dane, can therefore be used for free.

Opportunity for Fredberg

A great opportunity for Anderlecht, although their strict salary demands also turned out to be the main stumbling block there for the time being. Now that he no longer has to cough up a transfer fee, Jesper Fredberg, who would like to make an effort for Delaney, may be able to dig just a little deeper into his pockets.

Since they are clearly not eager to make compromises, it remains to be seen whether Augustinsson and Delaney will prove to be a piece of cake for the Brussels crowd. We certainly don’t have to expect white smoke anytime soon: in an attempt to sell them somewhere, Sevilla wants to wait and see for as long as possible.
