Andy Murray to undergo back surgery a few weeks before Wimbledon and the Paris 2024 Olympics

The end of his career is painful for former world No. 1 Andy Murray. The Scot will undergo back surgery after being forced to retire during his second round match at Queen’s this week, against Australian Jordan Thompson on Wednesday, his entourage announced on Friday.

“Andy will undergo back surgery tomorrow (Saturday), it was specified in a press release to the British media. We’ll know more once it’s done. »

The two-time Scottish Olympic gold medalist had already declared in February that he was unlikely to continue playing next season and was now racing against time to be fit for the next Wimbledon ( from July 1 to 14).

The 37-year-old has previously said it would be a fitting end to his career if he bows out at Wimbledon or the Paris Olympics (July 26 to August 11) this year. The next few weeks will tell if he can get the ending he dreams of.
